A SAR value is a measure of the maximum energy absorbed by a unit of mass of exposed tissue of a person using a mobile phone, over a given time or more simply the power absorbed per unit mass. SAR values are usually expressed in units of watts per kilogram (W/kg) in either 1g or 10g of tissue. Working closely with DOT (Department Of Telecommunication) and safety agencies, the DOT has adopted limits for safe exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy. These limits are given in terms of a unit referred to as the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which is a measure of the amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the body when using a mobile phone.

Any cell phone at or below these SAR levels (that is, any phone legally sold in the INDIA) is a "safe" phone, as measured by these standards.
